Diagnostic Engagement

Nonprofit / SMB IT Health Check.

A one-week paid diagnostic of your IT environment. The roadmap is yours, whether we work together after or not.

    typical engagement duration

  • 6–10 hours

total time required from your team

  • $3,500–$6,000

Why this matters.

"I don't know what I need; I just need help" is the most common opening line a senior IT advisor hears, and the second-most common is "we're heading into something big and we want a second set of eyes." Both deserve a real answer. The free assessments offered by every local MSP are designed to convert — the deliverable is a sales meeting. The Health Check is designed to inform — the deliverable is a written roadmap you keep, with prioritized next steps you can hand to your existing team, your existing MSP, or somebody else entirely.

What we do.

Stakeholder interviews with leadership, finance, and whoever runs IT day-to-day. An environment walkthrough — on-site if you're within driving distance of Bedford, Bloomington, or Indianapolis, otherwise remote. A documented inventory of what's actually in place: identity (Active Directory, Entra, MFA posture), Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, primary SaaS stack, vendor and MSP relationships, hardware lifecycle, backup status, and security baseline. A risk register, scored by severity. A twelve-month roadmap with prioritized actions. A leadership presentation that makes the findings legible to non-technical stakeholders.

What you walk away with.

A fifteen- to twenty-five-page written assessment, a risk register, a presentable summary deck, and a one-hour leadership presentation. The roadmap is yours — to act on with your existing team, hand to your MSP, or use as the framing document for a next engagement (with us or anyone else). No exclusivity clause, no preferred-vendor language, no upsell agenda baked into the recommendations.

What's in scope.

Stakeholder interviews (typically two to four hours across leadership, finance, IT-day-to-day). Environment walkthrough. Documented inventory across identity, M365 / Google Workspace, primary SaaS, vendor / MSP relationships, hardware lifecycle, backup posture, and security baseline. Risk register with severity scoring. Twelve-month roadmap with prioritized actions and effort × impact for each. Written assessment (~15–25 pages). Risk register. Summary deck. One-hour leadership presentation.

What's out of scope.

Implementation of any recommendations — that's a separate engagement, scoped specifically against findings. Penetration testing, formal compliance audit, or SOC 2 / HIPAA / CMMC readiness work — different sales motion, different credentialing requirements, different deliverable. Employee training. Hands-on remediation work delivered inside the Health Check engagement (we hand off the roadmap; you execute, or we scope a Targeted Project separately).

This is the right engagement when…

  • You're a nonprofit or SMB (ten to two hundred fifty employees) without a dedicated CIO or CTO, and you've been getting along with whoever's most technical on the leadership team.
  • A board, an auditor, an insurer, or a major donor is asking for an IT roadmap — and "we'll get to it" isn't going to hold for another quarter.
  • You're staring at a major decision (new system, acquisition, major hire, growth event) and you want clarity on the environment before you commit.
  • You've been pitched three free IT assessments by three different MSPs in the past six months, and you're suspicious — appropriately — that the deliverable will be a sales pitch, not a roadmap.

What you receive across the engagement.

  • Written assessment Fifteen- to twenty-five-page document. Executive summary, current-state snapshot across identity, productivity, SaaS, vendor relationships, hardware, backup, and security. Findings with severity. Recommendations with effort × impact.
  • Risk register Separate scored document, sortable by severity, ready to drop into a board or audit conversation.
  • Twelve-month roadmap Prioritized list of next moves. Mapped to organizational priorities and budget cadence. Effort and impact for each item; named first-quarter actions.
  • Summary deck Presentable in a leadership or board context. Distilled findings, three to five top risks, the roadmap on a single slide.
  • One-hour leadership presentation Live walkthrough of the deck and the roadmap, with leadership and any stakeholders you want present. Recording is yours.

Here's the shape of finding the engagement is built to surface.

How we're different.

  • Paid productized work, not free MSP lead-gen. No upsell agenda — the roadmap is yours whether you continue working with us or hand it to your existing team.
  • Principal-led delivery. Corey runs the assessment. No handoff to a delivery analyst or junior consultant.
  • Vendor-neutral. No reseller relationships that influence the recommendations. If the answer is "stay with what you have," that's the answer.
